A spokesman for the privacy watchdog said the commissioner is developingguidance for schools that would encourage them to "adopt best practice,which is to seek the consent of both pupils and parents".
However, despite concerns among parents and politicians about thestorage and use of fingerprint data, the watchdog only received 12complaints on the subject during the past year.
The commissioner's office also published guidance last week explainingthat children as young as 12 should have the right to access theinformation held about them by their school. The guidance coversEngland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
