0.67% of half days missed due to unauthorised absence in 2005/06 (0.78 per cent in England)

- 4.1% of primary pupils did not have English as their first language inJanuary 2006 (12.5 per cent in England)

- 3% of pupils with special educational needs statements in January 2006(2.9 per cent in England)

- 15.5% of nursery and primary school pupils taking free school meals inJanuary 2006 (13.3 per cent in England)

Stockton on Tees' annual performance assessment report states: "Theauthority has improved the speed at which statements of specialeducational need are produced and has reduced the overall number ofstatements. Support for looked-after and vulnerable pupils is a strongfeature of the authority's work."
