Education: Leaving age plan needs cash boost

Schools will need extra resources if the Prime Minister's plan to effectively extend the school leaving age to 18 is to be successful, a union has warned.

"It is a good idea but you need more teachers and more resources to make it happen," said a spokeswoman for the National Union of Teachers.

"The 1944 Education Act envisaged the school leaving age rising but we are one of the few countries where children do not stay on until 18."
