Education: Lack of advice on vocational options

The House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee said last week that Connexions was failing to reach many of those who need its services and that young people have been left to find their own way without help or guidance.

In the report, Apprenticeship: A Key Route to Skill, the committee says Connexions should explain the advantages of vocational, as well as academic, edu-cation and special attention should be given to informing young women about Apprenticeships that are non-traditional.

The committees report was published just two days after the Government promised a skills revolution for vocational training, in response to the Leitch Review of Skills.
