A report by the National Foundation for Educational Research foundinconsistencies in how much encouragement and help local authoritiesgave home educators.
Dick Downing, principal research officer at the foundation, said: "Someof the variation appears to be down to individual members of staff, butsome local authorities are collectively being proactive. But ifauthorities don't have the financial resources to give support, youcan't expect them to provide it."
The report, Support for Children Who Are Educated at Home, did identifysome examples of good practical support such as special tickets allowinghome educators to take books out of libraries for extended periods.
