EDITORIAL: Give Accreditation a chance to work

On the other hand, there are workers who think that accreditation performs the useful function of completing the circle of the youth work process.

But while "accreditation" may be a dirty word to some, the fact is it's here - and it's here to stay. Indeed, this week's feature on accreditation (see p16) shows there are lots of young people who get a real kick out of achieving an accredited outcome.

In last year's Resourcing Excellent Youth Services document, the Government laid down its now infamous target that each youth service should reach 25 per cent of its local population of 13- to 19-year-olds. And of that 25 per cent, which equates to 640,000 young people, 60 per cent "should undergo personal and social development that results in an accredited outcome".
