EDITORIAL: Defend youth work for the right reasons

Are we going to be required to do things for which there is no money, or not enough money, some have asked. And how can we embrace the proposals for more rigorous recording and greater sharing of information about young people without compromising the relationships of trust on which our work is based, others wonder. Issues such as these will no doubt be thoroughly discussed in the consultation on the green paper.

However, there is a more fundamental disquiet that stems from a perceived lack of acknowledgement in the green paper of the importance of work with young people and the skills this demands.
