An anti-racism project in West Yorkshire is recruiting youth workers to combat the attitudes that the British National Party stands for (see p2). The Ark (Anti-racism Kirklees) project has been awarded 300,000 of lottery money to work with local young people to fight against the rising tide of racism in the area, which has seen electoral success at local council level just across the Pennines in Burnley. A British National Party candidate is standing in a council by-election in Heckmondwike this Thursday, and the party's annual Red, White And Blue Festival is due to take place near Clitheroe in Lancashire this weekend.
