EDITORIAL: A new voice for the children's professions

1 min read
The Government green paper Every Child Matters signals a determination to get professionals in different areas of work with children to operate collaboratively and in multi-disciplinary teams. The resulting legislation will create new management structures and lines of accountability. Children's trusts will be responsible for services across education, health and social care, with hundreds of new points where services are delivered on the ground, in children's centres and extended schools. The training and qualifications of those who work with children will be overhauled.
New demands have been placed on professionals at a relentless pace over the past few years, but it is hard to think of a time when they have faced greater challenges than right now - or when there has been a more urgent need for information and a forum for debate and exchange of views. Children Now aims to meet this need. It will be the first publication dedicated to those who work with children across the education, health and social care sectors..

Readers will see we have two pages a week dedicated to the National Children's Bureau, marking a working association between NCB and Children Now.
