
Office for National Statistics data for 2018 shows nine out of 10 households have internet access - up from 65 per cent a decade ago - and in homes with children, 100 per cent had accessed the internet in the past three months.
Ofcom's most recent Media Use and Attitudes Report, published in January, gives a snapshot into how children - from pre-school to mid-teens - are consuming media and helps to identify trends on the type of content they use and how they are accessing it.
Some of the more striking findings include:
The Ofcom report finds the proportion of 12- to 15-year-olds with a social media profile fell over the past year - from 74 per cent in 2017 to 69 per cent in 2018; and from 23 per cent to 18 per cent over the same period for eight to 11-year-olds. However, there was a slight rise in the proportion of under-eights with a social media profile.
