During the 1950s, Gosling was one of Britain's first teddy boys. He is realistic about them. They may have danced to records by Black Americans (or White Americans trying to sound Black), but the attitude of some teddy boys towards British-based African-Caribbeans was very unpleasant, particularly during the Notting Hill Riots of 1958.
