DCSF rated 'good' for first year's work

The overall performance of the Department for Children, Schools and Families in its first year has been rated "good" by a mock panel of inspectors put together by CYP Now.

The work of the department, which marks its first anniversary on 28 June, is rated by nine key figures from the children and young people's sector. Panellists include Tom Wylie, former chief executive of The National Youth Agency, and Steve Alexander, chief executive of the Pre-school Learning Alliance.

The panellists give the department ratings based on the annual performance assessment grades for local authorities and deliver an overall verdict of good.

However, there are considerable differences in different parts of the sector. The department's work on play is declared "outstanding" and its work in social care, youth justice, health and early years receives a rating of "good".
