The news comes just days after a High Court judge warned that Haringey Council's dismissal of Sharon Shoesmith following the death of Baby P could have caused long-term damage to national safeguarding arrangements.
Mr Justice Foskett said the case could deter future DCSs from taking up the post.
John Chowcat, general secretary of children's services union Aspect, said Shoesmith's treatment was demoralising to professionals, but warned that massive workloads and media pressure could lead professionals to seek work "in greener
pastures".
He added that uncertainty about the general election and the future of children's services is adding to the strain on DCSs. "We need to know that a future government is going to continue to support directors," he said.
