Guidelines launched to improve commissioning of child eye health services; council undergoes first Youth Audit; and plans to raise education support for disabled young people to 25 gains backing, all in the news today.

Guidelines have been launched for commissioners and local authorities on how to implement the UK Vision Strategy for children and young people with visual impairments and their families. The guidelines have been developed by health, social care and
education professionals, and includes key outcomes, priority actions and a pathway
for local authorities to consider when commissioning and designing services. The UK Vision Strategy is a national framework to improve eye health services and support for blind
and partially sighted adults and children.

A group of teenagers has scrutinised Central Bedfordshire Council’s youth offer as part of an initiative supported by the British Youth Council. The country’s first Youth Audit team reviewed the council’s services before presenting their findings to senior council staff.  They outlined a set of next steps for the council to address and will meet with staff again in April to assess progress.
