
Young people living in homeless hostels are increasingly struggling to move into supported accommodation because housing benefit is not keeping up with private rent increases, charity Centrepoint has said. Its warning comes as a report by the Commons work and pensions committee found vulnerable groups are increasingly experiencing evictions and non-renewal of tenancies by private landlords because local housing allowances (LHA) are not keeping pace with rent levels. Centrepoint backs the committee's recommendation that LHA should be increased by more than one per cent in areas of housing pressure.
Responsibility for the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) has moved to the Ministry of Justice. The move, after 10 years of Cafcass being sponsored by the Department for Education, was announced as part of the Family Justice Review reforms last year.
