Daily roundup: Education standards, domestic violence, and SEN provision

UK not among world's top performing education systems, study finds; domestic violence services at "breaking point" warns charity; and confusion over new SEN funding rules, all in the news today.

The UK is falling behind global rivals after failing to make the top 20 in maths, reading and science results for 15-year-olds. The Telegraph reports that the Pisa tests run by think tank the OECD found Shanghai in China to be the world's top performing education system. Education Secretary Michael Gove said results for the UK proved the "urgent need for our reforms".

Domestic violence services for women are at "breaking point" because of "shocking gaps" in funding, it has been claimed. The BBC reports that Women's Aid said that, on one day in 2013, 155 women and 103 children were turned away from refuges in England.
