Minister moots late opening schools plan; report warns of postcode lottery for perinatal mental health, and serious case review identifies missed opportunities, all in the news today.

The government is drawing up plans for schools to stay open later and provide childcare on site, the Telegraph reports. Childcare minister Elizabeth Truss said the plans could see local childcare providers coming into schools to look after pupils from 3pm to 6pm or parents running local school clubs.

Pregnant women and new mothers are facing a "postcode lottery" in mental health services, an NSPCC report has found. The child protection charity’s report said that less than half of mental health trusts have specialist services for expectant and new mothers despite at least one in 10 suffering from perinatal mental illnesses.
