Data shows extent of CSE risk to children; study will look at benefits of later school start time; ONS reports girls more anxious about appearance than boys, all in the news today.

More than 6,000 children across England have been reported as at risk of child sex abuse since the beginning of 2013, the Guardian reports. Data from 88 English councils seen by Channel 4 News showed that over 18 months more than 6,300 children were flagged up to social services for being vulnerable to exploitation. The data includes a range of abuse and it is recorded in different ways by different councils.


Thousands of teenagers are to get an extra hour in bed in a trial to see whether later school start times can boost GCSE results. University of Oxford researchers say teenagers start functioning properly two hours later than older adults. A trial tracking nearly 32,000 GCSE pupils in more than 100 schools will assess whether a later school start leads to higher grades, and improved mental health and wellbeing, the BBC reports.
