
A petition against cuts to children’s services due to be made in Prime Minister David Cameron’s county council has been signed by his mother. The Guardian reports 81-year-old Mary Cameron is among about 10,000 people that have signed the petition to stop children’s centre closures in Oxfordshire County Council.
A five-year-old boy has become one of Britain’s youngest-ever cases of gender dysphoria. The Mirror reports the boy now turns up for classes at his Nottinghamshire primary school as a girl. Letters were also sent out to parents and classmates explaining the boy wishes to be treated as a girl.
More than 75 per cent of 10- to 12-year-olds in the UK have social media accounts despite being below the age limit, a survey for CBBC Newsround has found. The BBC reports the study, which comes on Safer Internet Day, also suggests more than 20 per cent of children have faced bullying online.
The number of children being home educated around Cambridgeshire has increased by 17 per cent in a year, Cambridgeshire County Council figures have revealed. Cambridge News reports 776 children were home schooled in 2014/15 compared with 663 in 2013/14.
A new “online risk and resilience” resource for professionals working with children and young people has been launched by MindEd as part of Safer Internet Day. Funded by the Department of Health, the resource aims to help professionals have a better understanding of the risk and resilience factors at play on the internet.
