A new national hub of information, resources and advice on evidence and impact for the youth sector, officially launched today. The Centre for Youth Impact is being coordinated by a partnership of three organisations – the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services (NCVYS), Project Oracle and the Social Research Unit at Dartington. The centre will support youth organisations to understand and evidence the impact they have on the lives of young people.
Prisons minister Simon Hughes has called for the Youth Justice Board (YJB) to be given greater power to divert young offenders to mental health services as part of efforts to reduce numbers of people in custody. Speaking to The Independent, the Lib Dem MP also called for fewer shorter sentences and fewer women going to jail. He said he will urge Justice Secretary Chris Grayling to give the YJB the power to recommend treatment for mental illness as well as custody.
