
Charges for mental health prescriptions for students should be scrapped, the Royal College of GPs has said. The BBC reports that according to official figures, one in 50 students in England has registered a mental health condition with their university.
Taking folic acid supplements throughout pregnancy may improve psychological development in children. The British Psychological Society said that research by academics at Ulster University found that children whose mothers took the supplement throughout pregnancy demonstrated higher levels of emotional intelligence and resilience.
Rotherham Council has launched a recruitment drive for social workers to look after the growing number of children in care. The Yorkshire Post reports that the number of looked-after children in the town has risen from 407 at the end of March 2016 to 500.
More must be done to help Gypsy, Roma and traveller children, as well as those from other low-achieving groups, do better in school, a Labour member of the Welsh Assembly has said. The South Wales Argus reports that assembly member Lynne Neagle led a debate into a report by the Welsh Assembly's children, young people and education committee, which found young people from these groups had low levels of education achievement.
