
Two foster carers have won the right to be classed as employees in a ruling that could usher in holiday pay and a guaranteed minimum wage for thousands of people in Scotland. The Times reports that an employment tribunal in Glasgow rejected a council's assertion that James and Christine Johnstone, both 54, were self-employed.
Refugee children could be permanently separated from their families unless the government includes family reunification in post-Brexit immigration law, the head of Unicef UK has warned. The Guardian reports that the charity's UK boss, Mike Penrose, has urged the government to commit to including wider family reunification rights in new immigration laws for when the UK leaves the EU.
NHS officials are to spend the day assessing whether three hospitals can provide proper care for a girl who is believed to be at serious risk of taking her own life when she is released from youth custody in 10 days' time. The Guardian reports that her urgent case was highlighted by the UK's most senior family judge, Sir James Munby, yesterday.
Children's services in Windsor and Maidenhead have joined the Achieving for Children company that is responsible for provision in the London boroughs of Kingston and Richmond. The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead said that employees transferred to the new model this week. They will deliver the same service, but now part of a larger organisation.
A woman and her ex-boyfriend have been jailed after her four-month-old baby girl suffered a horrific catalogue of injuries. The Leicester Mercury reports that the baby's injuries included damage to her brain, a broken leg, haemorrhages in both eyes and bruising. Samiya-Sara Tempah, 25, and Yasin Valli, 26, also delayed getting medical help for the seriously-ill infant for two days, Leicester Crown Court was told.
