Pupil's parents questioned over fears he had been radicalised; former footballer Adam Johnson found guilty of sexual activity with a minor; and Ofsted chief Sir Michael Wilshaw says there is an urgent need to recruit good future leaders for England's schools, all in the news today.

The parents of an eight-year-old claimed they were grilled over fears their son had been radicalised. The Telegraph reports that the boy wrote that he wanted to "fight terrorists" after learning about the Syrian refugee crisis in class.


Former England footballer Adam Johnson has been found guilty of one count of sexual activity with a 15-year-old schoolgirl. The Guardian reports that the judge in Johnson's case said he faces a prison sentence with a range of four to 10 years.


There is an urgent need to recruit good future leaders for England’s schools, the head of Ofsted has said. The BBC reports Sir Michael Wilshaw said a national system that identifies, trains and nurtures teachers with leadership potential is critical.


Youth and community centres in Leicester could be sold or demolished in a bid to create savings of £310,000 over the next five years. The Leicester Mercury reports Leicester City Council currently spends £348,000 a year on running around a dozen buildings and is planning a major shake-up of how it runs them.


Calls for all children up to the age of 11 to be given the meningitis B vaccine have been rejected by the government. The Guardian reports the Department of Health said it would not be cost-effective to give the vaccine to children outside of the highest risk groups.
