
Police are receiving more than 100 cases a month to the Goddard inquiry into child sexual abuse, and expect to be given 30,000 reports of new offences by the end of the inquiry. Schools minister Nick Gibb has pledged to overturn a High Court ruling on term-time holidays, when it ruled in favour of a man who took his child on holiday in term-time, due to her good attendance record.? The BBC reports that Gibb wants to "give schools and councils the power to ensure children attend school when they should".
Leicester's youth offending service has been praised in a report led by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Probation. The Leicester Mercury reported that inspectors said young people were "overwhelmingly positive" about the support they received from workers.
Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has appointed a new cabinet secretary for education and skills. John Swinney, who has served as finance secretary for nine years, will be responsible for a range of children and young people’s services including youth work, early years, adoption and fostering and children’s services.
