Morning after pill licensed for use by under-16s; Norfolk Council appoints Michael Rosen as director of children's services; and questions on cost prompt Labour to call for free childcare expansion delay, all in the news today.

The morning after pill has been officially licensed for use by girls aged under 16, the Guardian reports. EllaOne has received a change in licence from the European medicines agency, meaning it is available for use by any women of reproductive age in Europe. The pill has the advantage of being effective five days after sexual intercourse.

 

Michael Rosen has been appointed as executive director for children’s services at Norfolk County Council. Rosen will take over the position from Sheila Lock, who will remain for a few months to manage the transition and hand-over process. Rosen said: “I’m really excited about the progress that has been made in the county and I look forward to the opportunity to build on that and ensure Norfolk’s children have the best chances in life."
