Nurseries to benefit from small business tax cuts in Wales; research shows how technology is changing children's relationships; and a dramatic rise in British child citizenship fees, all in the news today.

Nurseries in Wales look set to benefit from a new tax relief scheme for small businesses launched by The Welsh Government. The scheme should see nurseries paying lower business rates from April 2018. Purnima Tanuku, chief executive of the National Day Nurseries Association, said it was "a step in the right direction".

Digital technology fundamentally shapes young people's relationships, a report has found. Brook and NCA-CEOP's report has revealed how technology alters the ways in which young people relate to one another in romantic and sexual relationships. Interviews from the research have shown that 38 per cent of participants reported meeting someone online before meeting and dating them, and this was more frequently reported by LGBT young people.

The government is under pressure to reduce a steep rise in the cost of British citizenship for children, The Independent reports. The fee for registering a child's citizenship application has risen by 153 per cent in the last seven years, from £386 in 2010 to £973 today. Campaign group Citizens UK and young people held a lobby of Westminster on Wednesday in protest against the fee.

Researchers found that, of the 7,600 children they examined, those who best met European healthy food guidelines had better self-esteem and wellbeing, regardless of their weight.
