
The numbers of young people in custody has crept back above the 1,000 mark. Latest Youth Justice Board figures show that in March 2015, there were 1,004 under-18s in custody, a rise of 12 on the 992 recorded in February – the first month since records began that the number had fallen below 1,000. The March figure is still 153 lower than the same month last year.
Families in Glasgow are to benefit from more than £600,000 of National Lottery good cause funding announced today. Among those to benefit is Glasgow East Women’s Aid Family Development, which has been handed £289,000 to work with 100 families providing them with a tailored package of support including one-to-one and group work sessions.
Reappointed education secretary Nicky Morgan has promised to "rebuild bridges" with the teaching profession. BBC News reports Morgan has pledged to work with teachers so every child is guaranteed an excellent local school, with tackling poor school performance one of her top priorities.
A petition has been launched calling for Reading East Conservative MP Rob Wilson, who was appointed youth minister in September 2014, to resign following a Twitter spat. Get Reading reports that Wilson replied “don’t be a bad loser” to a constituent enquiring about homelessness levels in the town.
Ofsted has launched a consultation on changes to the way secure training centres are inspected. Changes set to be introduced from July 2015 include a judgment grade of "requires improvement" replacing the current judgment grade of "adequate".
