Oxfordshire’s first community-run children’s centre has opened. The Oxford Mail reports that the centre, which was launched by Cholsey Parish Council, has been opened at a time when children’s centres are under threat across the county because of funding cuts. ?


Children as young as five are gorging on sugar by eating almost four times the recommended daily limit, a study of English schoolchildren has revealed. The Daily Mail reports that the study found that children were consuming an average 75g of sugar a day, which is nearly four times the 19g maximum daily intake for their age group.?


A national award has been given to students and staff at a York school for their work to promote lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality. The York Press reports that during its annual youth awards, LGBT charity Stonewall praised York High School for its commitment and dedication to creating safe spaces and combating LGBT bullying.?


A new crime prevention programme has been launched for children aged 10 to 17 to target those at risk of becoming involved in antisocial behaviour. Doncaster Free Press reports that Doncaster Children’s Services Trust says the Encouraging Potential Inspiring Change project will involve a whole-family approach to working.


An academy trust has been accused of segregating disabled pupils after announcing plans to transfer children with special educational needs (SEN) from a well-performing school to a worse school because of limited resources. The Guardian reports that the Dean Trust has informed parents that their children will attend lessons at the lower-performing school because of "limited resources".
