
The new structure of youth justice governance has been criticised following a major shake-up by the coalition government.
Under plans announced last week, the Youth Justice Board (YJB) will become the sole responsibility of the Ministry of Justice, cutting its ties with the old Department for Children, Schools and Families, which has been renamed the Department for Education.
It is feared that the change will make it less likely that children and young people in custody will be treated on a welfare basis.
Jon Fayle, head of Children Law UK, which is part of The Adolescent and Children's Trust, described the shift as "regressive".
