The report, commissioned by charity Victim Support, surveyed more than 400 young people in England and Wales. It discovered one in four had been victims of crimes ranging from theft and burglary to violence and assault.
Nearly a third had been victims of crime between two and five times that year.
Peter Dunn, head of research and development at Victim Support, said: "We suspected that young people were more likely to be victims than perpetrators, and I fear the number could be far higher as a lot of crime is hidden away, such as domestic violence and bullying." Fifty four per cent were the victims of violence and assault, 43 per cent of theft and five per cent of sexual assault.
