The funding settlement for councils in England for 2011/12 and 2012/13, announced by Communities Secretary Eric Pickles, will mean average cuts of 4.4 per cent to the "spending power" of authorities.
Caps will mean no council will face year-on-year cuts of more than 8.9 per cent.
However, calculations by CYP Now reveal that authorities with higher levels of children in need fare much worse than those with the lowest.
Of the 27 authorities facing cuts in the coming year of eight per cent or more, eight — Hackney, Hull, Islington, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Southwark and Tower Hamlets — are ranked in the bottom 10 of the children in need rank of average scores, according to the Local Index of Child Well-Being 2009.
