Council contract to woo the young

Education Youth Work
A local authority in the North East is developing a specific contract for all children and young people in the area outlining exactly what they can expect of services and what is expected of them.

The Children and Young People's Gateshead Offer will see the authority seek to agree with children and young people in the area what services it will offer them in return for a commitment to attend school and cut down on truanting.

Maggie Atkinson, director of children's services at Gateshead Council, said: "The Gateshead Offer will be published this year. We will ask them whether or not they are signed up to it and we have to let children know they are partly responsible for it."
