Carolyn Caldwell, executive director of the association, said it was seeking legal advice about the 25m cut. "We are concerned that money is shifting away from young people's services and have written to Charles Clarke, the secretary of state for education," said Caldwell.
A letter requesting a meeting with Anne Weinstock, head of the Department for Education and Skills unit that runs Connexions, has also be sent out.
While the Government has insisted no frontline staff cuts should be made, pressure to minimise VAT bills is forcing many partnerships to consider cuts in back office or managerial staff. A Department for Education and Skills spokeswoman said job losses were possible.
