Concerns raised over justice bill

Youth Justice
A lobby group has raised concerns over a bill aimed at making it easier for witnesses to give evidence, amid concerns it could prejudice trials of young defendants.

Part of the Coroners and Justice Bill, currently going through Parliament, seeks to extend the use of special measures in court, such as live video links and screens around the witness box.

Sally Ireland, chair of The Standing Committee on Youth Justice, said: "Many of our members are concerned about cases where the defendant is also a child and older witnesses may be given special measures that the defendant has no access to."
