Community Cohesion: Racism pilot project to get funding to continue work

1 min read

The Rewind project started in Sandwell, in the West Midlands, 12 months ago and has since been established in 35 other areas, including Bradford, Slough and Newcastle. It is funded by the Home Office's Community Cohesion Pathfinder Programme to pioneer ways of tackling community tension. Four youth workers train young people to deliver workshops.

To date, 60 young people have held workshops for 5,000 of their peers.

Now Rewind is to continue in Sandwell after being promised funding from a partnership of organisations including the local education authority, primary care trust and youth service.

The pathfinder programme, which is funded by the Home Office and the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit, is due to end early next year, by which time the 14 pathfinder projects will have to have found other sources of income.
