Can refugees and asylum-seekers legally go to university in the UK?
By law, all young people, regardless of their immigration status, can apply to study at a higher education institution. However, to be admitted they must:
Access to higher education will often be determined by whether the individual has to pay home or overseas fees (which are far more expensive), and whether they are eligible for student support, including student loans. This will be dependant on the immigration status of the young person.
Who is eligible for home fees and student support?
A person granted refugee status will be granted five years leave to remain in the UK and will be eligible for home fees and for student support.
