Children's Social Work Matters

A region-wide approach uniting 15 local authority children's services that encourages staff to share best practice.

ACTION

Children's social workers operating within the Yorkshire and Humber region's 15 local authorities are sharing knowledge and experiences of their practice with peers across authority borders.

The Association of Directors of Children's Services (ADCS) Yorkshire and Humber regional group launched this united approach, Children's Social Work Matters (CSWM), in 2011. It aims to raise the profile of social work, improve recruitment and retention, and pledges to ensure the region is "the most collaborative, supportive and rewarding place" to work.

The ADCS group delivers this promise in several ways. One of the most successful is the CSWM website. What began as a recruitment platform has grown into a development and learning hub. Edited jointly by the region's 15 principal social workers, practitioners of all levels contribute blogs, comments, videos and webinars about experiences or learning they want to share.
