Children's services training scheme raises the bar

How will the new apprenticeship for children's services work and what opportunities will it bring?

What is the children's services apprenticeship?

Amid concerns in children's services about difficulties with recruitment and retention, a government scheme is being developed to offer various groups, including former service users and existing volunteers, the chance to become paid professionals in a range of roles across the sector.

The apprenticeship trailblazer scheme is being developed by a core group of public, private and voluntary sector employers, with support from a wider range of organisations including the Association of Directors of Children's Services (ADCS), Skills for Care and Development, the Local Government Association and some local authorities. It is scheduled to launch in 2017.
