Children's policy: Shadow children's secretary in post

The Conservative Party last week appointed Michael Gove as shadow children's secretary in response to the formation of the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

Gove, who was shadow housing minister, is a key member of Conservativeleader David Cameron's inner circle.

A spokeswoman for Save the Children said Gove's priorities should be "tofocus on the attainment gap in education, as well as making a firmcommitment to the child poverty targets".

The Liberal Democrats also reshuffled their top team last weekappointing David Laws as the party's children's spokesman. Other keyappointments to the Conservatives' shadow cabinet include shadow workand pensions secretary Chris Grayling and Nick Herbert as shadow justicesecretary. Danny Alexander is now the Liberal Democrats' work andpensions spokesman and David Heath is their justice spokesman.
