Chancellor George Osborne announced last week that funding for schools,Sure Start and 16 to 19 education would be protected. But no mentions offunding for children in care, coupled with a reduction in localauthority grants, is sparking concern.
John Kemmis, chief executive of Voice, warned that looked-after childrenmust be protected from cuts. "It's my concern that children in carecould miss out on placements or services that are important forrehabilitation," he said.
Kevin Gallagher, chief executive of residential care provider BrynMelyn, said the children's social care sector is "in limbo, waiting formore clarity". He added that providers are not only concerned about cutsto local authority budgets, but to government support initiatives, suchas the Centre for Excellence and Outcomes in Children and Young People'sServices.
