Children & Early Years: Protest at closure of support group

1 min read Early Years
A campaign has been launched to save a support group for mothers in north-west London.

The weekly Willesden Health Centre Mother and Baby Group, in Brent, will be forced to close on 20 May because of a shortage of health visitors in the borough.

In response, users of the group have written an open letter to Mark Easton, chief executive of Brent Primary Care Trust, and local MPs Sarah Teather and Dawn Butler, calling for it to be saved. Butler went on to raise the issue in the House of Commons.

Sarah Green, who has been attending the group for four months, said: "It is an essential service for us, providing advice on things like weaning and baby massage. But Brent has a real shortage of health visitors, and last month the senior health visitor came in to tell us the group was not a high enough priority and they were closing it down."
