Children and Adoption Act 2006 - Children Act 1989 Contact Activity Directions and Conditions (Financial Assistance) (England) Regulations 2008.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) wants to give courts more flexible powers to get people involved in contact cases to take part in activities such as information meetings, parenting programmes and other activities to promote contact with a child.

The consultation proposes that conditions are given with contact orders that may require attendance at a contact activity. The DCSF would also like to impose community-based enforcement orders on people when they have breached a contact order without a reasonable excuse, or allow financial compensation to be given from one party to another, such as in cases where the cost of a holiday has been lost. Officers from the courts advisory service Cafcass would be asked to report to the court if anyone fails to comply with the conditions of their contact orders.

The DCSF hopes to publish a response in October. Closing date 30 July 2008
