Children's minister Beverley Hughes spelt out this message at a LocalGovernment Chronicle conference last week. When the Childcare Billbecomes law, Hughes said, local authorities must ensure there's enoughchildcare and pay special attention to provision for disabledchildren.
She said the duty would provide the impetus for more childcare fordisabled children.
But she confirmed there would be no extra government money despite thefact that it is more expensive than other childcare.
