Childcare: Demand rising for voucher scheme

The Inland Revenue may have underestimated demand for new childcare vouchers offering tax breaks to employers.

Initial calculations forecast a five-fold increase in the take-up of vouchers in the first year of the new voucher scheme, which was introduced last week.

Nancy Weeden, childcare services manager for Sodexho Pass, which runs a long-established childcare voucher scheme, said it had been inundated with enquiries, including calls from smaller businesses eager to offer workers more advantages.
