Challenging poverty: Young campaigners meet minister

Young campaigners for Save the Children challenged Treasury minister Stephen Timms on child poverty in the UK last week. Young women from Kensington and Chelsea put a range of questions to the chief secretary to the Treasury including how the Government plans to end child poverty.

They also suggested some solutions, such as more grants. The meetingfollowed an earlier child poverty event that Timms had to pull outfrom.

Kate Turner, youth campaigns manager at Save the Children, said: "Wewant the politicians to listen and take note of what they have to say. This is the next generation talking. When they're adults, child povertyshould no longer exist if the Government keeps its promises." Seefeature, p20.
