In a letter to Ruth Kelly, the association's chief executive Graham Hoyle wrote: "While schools must fully co-operate with those responsible for information, advice and guidance, it will be disastrous if the responsibility was to be given to them."
Hoyle says responsibility for the services must be vested in impartial and specialist information, advice and guidance providers - probably on a contractual basis.
His letter was reacting to details of the new responsibilities for information, advice and guidance likely to be given to schools, as outlined in the draft of the youth green paper revealed by Young People Now (YPN, 16-22 March, p8).
