The call by Frances Crook, director of the Howard League for PenalReform, comes after the Conservative shadow minister for children TimLoughton highlighted the potential for axing quangos.
Crook told CYP Now: "We would certainly be in favour of splitting up theYJB. It should be a body similar to the National Institute for ClinicalExcellence that looks at what works effectively."
A Ministry of Justice spokesman said a YJB review, announced last month,would take stock of its role.
