Chancellor Gordon Brown was expected to announce increases in taxcredits for families, something child poverty campaigners have longcalled for.
Proposals to expand child trust funds were also expected; with furtherpayments for children at seven and 11 on top of the 250 theycurrently receive at birth.
The Government sees both measures as key planks of its strategy totackle child poverty.
