A charity study has revealed that children's opinions of fruit, vegetables and desserts can be influenced by environment and experience.

Vegetarians aren't natural, according to a study by Cancer Research UK.Researchers looked at whether children's food likes and dislikes are theresult of their genes or their experiences.

It found that a liking for meat and fish appeared to be the result ofnature while children's fondness for desserts, vegetables and fruit werethe result of nurture.

Researchers from the charity's health behaviour unit at UniversityCollege London based their findings on a study of 214 same-sex twinsaged four and five. The researchers asked the children's mothers to rate95 foods based on their children's likes and dislikes. Foods tried byfewer than a quarter of the twins were excluded from the finalstatistical analysis.
