Researchers, focusing on five local authorities in the North East, NorthWest and West Midlands, discovered 80 reported cases of known orsuspected child victims of trafficking over the last three years, with48 of these children having gone missing from social services care andnever been traced.
The study found two common reasons why children disappear: they areoften still under the "control" of the trafficker who seeks to removethem as soon as possible; or they fear that the trafficker will findthem.
